Office 365 is the cloud-based (hosted) version of Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint.1 out of every 4 of Microsoft’s enterprise customers is using Office 365; year over year growth is 88%; and Microsoft has announced that all development for Exchange and SharePoint will focus first on the Office 365 versions.
There are dozens of records management, eDiscovery, information security, and data management features built right into Office 365.The challenge for RIM professionals is understanding what these features are—and whether they are suitable for their particular organization.
This presentation provides RIM professionals with a clear explanation of what Office 365 is; the types of information and data created and stored within the service; how Office 365 works (where the data is stored, how it is backed up, etc.); and, a review of the built in records management and eDiscovery capabilities that RIM professionals can use to manage the retention, disposition, and discovery (eDiscovery) of data residing within the system. 

Learning Outcomes

RIM professionals will leave this presentation with the following information:

  • Clear understanding of what Office 365 is and why it’s imperative for RIM professionals to be out in front of the adoption of this technology.
  • Key dynamics to think about when their organization moves to Office 365.
  • An overview of the built-in records management and eDiscovery features of Office 365, including their benefits and limitations.
  • An understanding of the resources and tools available to be become conversant with Office 365, especially from a RIM perspective.
  • A clear understanding of the types of data and information that resides in Office 365.

About our Presenter
John Collins, Director-Information Governance Solutions and Office 365 Consulting Services, DTI.  John works with corporations on a wide range of eDiscovery readiness, information security, RIM, and Office 365 consulting engagements.  DTI has developed the nation’s first consulting practice focused specifically on eDiscovery and Information Governance in the most widely used cloud business application, Office 365.  John oversees the team which assesses, implements, and manages eDiscovery and IG processes in Office 365.  John has created dozens of eDiscovery response plans and ESI data maps for organizations across various industry verticals, including banking and finance, pharma, consumer products, manufacturing, and engineering; a number of these engagements included implementing legal hold software and development of supporting preservation processes.  John has trained hundreds of attorneys, paralegals, litigation support and eDiscovery professionals on information technology and information systems, such as SharePoint, Exchange, Office 365, SAP, Lync/Skype for Business, and Google Apps for Work.  John earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Nazareth College and an Executive Juris Doctorate from Concord Law School.

ARMA Chicago Chapter Awards

As we draw near to the close of another year in the life of our Chapter, it’s time once again to recognize those who have worked diligently to promote and support the field of information governance and records/information management.

 All ARMA Chicago members can participate in the process of recommending individuals who may qualify for one or more of ARMA Chicago’s awards. Please consider individuals you have worked with in your organizations and/or at ARMA Chicago from July 1, 2015 to the present who deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication, either to information governance/RIM initiatives in your organization or to ARMA Chicago. Awards will be presented at the Chicago Chapter Awards Banquet, to be held on Tuesday, June 14. Save the date – more details to follow soon!

Can’t leave the office for our meeting? Not a problem!

We all know the benefits of attending live meetings, participating with the audience and networking with our colleagues. Sometimes, we are not’t able to leave our offices but still would enjoy the educational opportunities that ChicagoARMA provides. We have listened! 

ARMA Chicago now offers two ways to attend monthly chapter meetings. In addition to our fantastic monthly speaker presentations and networking lunches,ARMA Chicago offers the ability to stream presentation content from the comfort of an office, a hotel room, a couch or anywhere with an internet connection. UsingCitrix GoToMeetings™, ARMA members will pay just $10 to watch and listen to monthly chapter presentations in real time (non-members pay $20). Online attendees can even ask questions of the speaker. In fact, ARMA Chicago is the first chapter in all of ARMA International to offer this meeting delivery method.

How It Works

  1. RSVP for a chapter meeting like usual, via armaadmin@armachicago.org.

  2. Specify you’ll be attending the meeting online.

  3. Pay your fee: $10 for ARMA members; $20 for non-members (via PayPal™ or invoice).

  4. The Friday before the meeting, ARMA Chicago will email you a link to thewebinar. Follow the instructions in the email to register for the meeting.

  5. Log into the Webinar at least ten minutes before the start of the meeting.

  6. Grab a cup of coffee and join the meeting, ask questions and reap the benefits of our educational offerings!

Frequently Asked Questions

What prompted ARMA Chicago to offer streaming meetings?

For years, some of our valued members have shared frustrations with the board about wanting to attend chapter meetings, but being unable to leave the office. In order to ensure our chapter constituency has the highest level of access to meeting content, the Board of Directors unanimously voted to invest in this type of project. Although you will not have the same experience as a live audience, you will be able to “attend” the presentation, go through the educational content and even ask questions.

Will the meetings be “Recorded” or “On Demand?”

No. Those who choose to pay to attend the meetings online will not have the option to view the videos on demand. Content presented in the online meetings will be in real-time, and not recorded.

What if my computer does not behave?

When you sign up for the online meeting, the chapter administrator will provide a link to the webinar. During the sign-up process for the webinar, GoToMeetings™ will provide a list of standard system operating requirements. Please ensure your computer meets those standard system operating requirements before attempting to view the webinar. ARMA Chicago is unfortunately not able to remote troubleshoot or fix any chapter member or guest computer systems. Individual concerns can be directed to the Board of Directors atarmaadmin@armachicago.org.

Will the online format be available for all meetings?

With the exception of the winter and end of the year banquets and the spring seminar, it is our hope all meetings will be available in the in-person and online format. Unless unforeseen circumstances arise, we anticipate offering the online option for all regular chapter meetings beginning November 11, 2014.

Can I register at the last minute?

To ensure each registered online chapter member receives proper links and login credentials, the deadline for registration for the online format is 5PM on the Friday prior to the chapter meeting.

My schedule suddenly changed! Can I switch from an in-person registration to an online registration?

Once a reservation has been made for a particular format (in-person or online), you cannot switch between format. We appreciate your help and understanding with this policy.

Can I ask questions of the speaker?

Absolutely! Simply type your question in the GoToMeetings chat window and the moderator will ask your question at the end of the presentation.
